Cheers to Six Years: A Leaf Learning Retrospective

Returning to the start of Leaf Learning 365 brings a whirlwind of emotions and a reminder of the unknown we were about to face when we started the business in 2018. Who knew that a casual conversation that took place over six years ago between two colleagues could change the course of both our personal and professional lives? This month, we proudly announce that Leaf Learning 365 is celebrating our 6th anniversary. And like every small business, there is a story to tell, and today, we share ours.

It all began with an acquisition of the company that we were both working for that changed the trajectory of our future. Both deeply rooted in the training industry assisting organizations and, more importantly, people embracing technology change, we hit a crossroads. Our stable careers were suddenly in jeopardy because of the new requirement to commute to an office five days a week. The solution was to start a new Canadian-owned and operated training organization with one goal: to provide a flexible training solution focusing specifically on Microsoft applications and technologies.

After many discussions, respect for one another, the requirement to always be a Mom first, and a mutual passion for helping people embrace Microsoft applications, Leaf Learning 365 officially launched in February 2018.

From the start, we chose to do things differently. We did not want bricks and mortar, and we did not want to run a public schedule. Although these were both risky moves, we stuck to our belief that an off-the-shelf course would not provide users with what they needed, nor would it allow us to work hand in hand with organizations guiding them on their unique training plan.

Those first months involved informing our target market of a new choice for employee training and the importance of a flexible, customized training solution. We have been privileged to work hand in hand with a core group of instructors who believe in our vision. We know contract instructors have a choice on what training provider they work with, and at Leaf Learning 365, they are part of the team. With each successful delivery, we added to our story.

Then, when COVID hit, organizations were forced to close offices and fast-track a work-from-home plan. Already fully prepared to offer virtual deliveries, we hit the ground running and guided, advised, and taught many organizations (both public and private sector) how to leverage Teams for much more than a chat & meeting tool. In tandem, we increased the number of Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) courses delivered.

Our portfolio has expanded over the last six years to include Adobe courses, Security Threat Awareness, and SharePoint & Teams consulting services and at times, a small open enrollment calendar.

We took a chance, believed in our model, and are excited to see what tomorrow will bring.
