Getting started with Microsoft 365 Copilot in Excel

Duration:  Three (3) Hours

About: This course is designed to help users effectively utilize Microsoft 365 Copilot in Excel. It covers various topics, including practical examples, how-tos, and tips for writing, explaining, and asking questions about formulas. The sessions also delves into analyzing and visualizing data, working with text, and using multi-turn interactions to refine prompts.

License Requirements:  To complete exercises in this course, each student must have access to a Microsoft 365 subscription (BYOS), licensed to use Copilot for Microsoft 365. Each student must also have a Microsoft OneDrive account since Copilot requires OneDrive to complete the file-sharing tasks.

Audience Profile: This course is ideal for professionals who frequently use Excel for data analysis, financial modelling, and other spreadsheet-related tasks in their work environment. It’s suitable for individuals at all levels of an organization, including administrative staff, managers, executives, and IT professionals. The course is designed to be accessible and beneficial for beginners and experienced users.

Prerequisites:  Participants should have a foundational understanding of Excel.

  • Working with text:
    1. Summarize a column of text
    2. Extract labels from a text column into a new column
    3. Split text into two columns
  • Separate delimited text into separate yes/no columns
  • Formula help
  • Lookups and cross-references across tables/ranges
  • Visualize – charts and colour

Important: Copilot in Excel requires AutoSave to be turned on, which means the file has to be saved to OneDrive. It currently doesn't work with unsaved files.
